Never lose an earring again!

Updated: May 1

At Stellina Jewelry, we’re always on the lookout for the best tips to help moms take care of their little ones’ jewelry. And today, we’re bringing you a trick that has been tried, tested, and approved over 50 years of selling fine jewelry.

It all started with a sweet grandma who, while buying gold earrings for her granddaughter, shared a genius method to keep those screw backs, little bead, or tiny backings from mysteriously vanishing into the void.

The secret? Surprisingly simple and incredibly effective. First, make sure the earring post is clean and in good condition. Then, insert the earring into the piercing, apply a tiny amount of clear nail polish to the tip of the post, and finally, screw on the backing. This little hack acts as a mild adhesive, keeping the earring secure for a much longer time.

Why do earring backs tend to loosen up? Blame it on friction with hair and clothing, and the fact that gold, being a soft metal, can expand with heat and wear. Over time, even the tiniest shift in shape can cause those backs to slip off.

Now, a word of caution: Always apply the nail polish AFTER the earring has been inserted, NEVER EVER before, for obvious hygiene and safety reasons. There are even non-toxic nail polishes available that are more skin-friendly (and don’t smell like a chemical experiment gone wrong!).

This little trick has been passed down through generations, and many moms swear by its effectiveness. So if you’ve ever had trouble with earring backs that magically disappear, give this a shot and see the difference!

If this method sounds too daring for your taste, don’t worry—at Stellina Jewelry, we always include an extra set of backings with your order, just in case you prefer classic friction backs over screwbacks.

At Stellina Jewelry, we love sharing these little secrets that make life easier and keep our little ones stylishly adorned with their beautiful gold earrings!
